Long Distance Cycling In Ohio
This route was last run more than ten years ago, using pieces of several earlier brevet routes connected with challenging segments long ridden by local masochists. From Canal Winchester, the route navigates from the congestion of the metro area into flat to rolling hills southbound to Chillicothe and the Hocking Hills. There the route becomes a climbing-fest with limited cell phone service. For the most part road surfaces are good; exceptions are noted in the cues. In the Hocking Hills park, debris from storms may still litter the roadway. A few roads and bike paths have poor surfaces but there are no designated gravel sections. The most scenic sections traverse the steepest hills, with several short climbs exceeding 14%. Be especially alert descending these places as the sight lines are limited. During the hours of the ride all controls will be open. Have fun, slow down on the dodgy stretches and enjoy the scenery.
